STEP 3: Learn More
The first step in fixing a problem is to learn about it.
- Using the education resources provided, learn what the tissue does, why it breaks down and the plan to fix it.
- Identify factors that have led to injury and modify them as able.
- Find ways to support the tissue by bracing, taping, insoles/orthotics, etc.
- Evaluate your activities and see if there are ways to modify them to decrease the loading on the injury to a level that does not worsen your pain levels.
STEP 4: Follow the Program
The exercise programs are designed in a stage-based approach to meet you where you’re at. Start with Stage 1 and master the exercises there. These will be lower-level loading exercises or exercises that set foundation movement patterns you will build on in future stages.
At the end of each stage there are criteria for progression to the next stage to help guide you when you’re ready to move on. Each stage typically lasts 2 to 6 weeks. By following the program, you will gradually load your tissues, making them strong without causing further injury, building their capacity for other activities, and helping you recover from your injury.
STEP 5: Get Back to Life!
By the end of your journey (which may take 3 to 6 months, strengthening and healing doesn’t happen overnight) our goal is that you will be stronger, move better and be able to do a lot more without pain. Some conditions require some maintenance – don’t forget your exercises completely. They may be something you want to continue a couple times a week.
This program is not designed to replace professional assessment, advice or treatment. Please consult a health care professional if your condition is not improving, you are unable to complete the exercises or they are making your pain levels worse.
